Leah –
How to Thrive Online provided much needed up to date information and practical tips to help guide discussions and set boundaries with my 13 year old daughter in relation to social media. Michaela has a natural way of communicating and presenting information to young people in her videos that is clear, engaging, and persuasive – without being overbearing or using scare tactics. Aside from coming away with accurate information about the potential pitfalls of social media and how to avoid them, I gained new insights into the positive side of social media, such as the opportunity to be part of on-line communities that align with one’s interests (e.g. sport, social justice or environmental causes). Michaela’s balanced view was a welcome change from the typical negative narrative that dominates this space. I would certainly recommend How to Thrive On-line to any parent who is grappling with the “do’s and don’t’s” of social media, or those of who feel they could benefit from a refresher.
